About the Recipe

Used to deepen flavor in gravies, soups, and stews — this clean roux honors both your body and your healing journey.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups organic unbleached flour (or organic einkorn flour — nutrient-rich and easier to digest)

  • 2 cups organic avocado oil (chosen for high heat stability and clean, minimal processing)

A roux isn’t just a technique — it’s intentional nourishment that forms the heart of many healing meals.

Preparation

Instructions (Slow, Simple, Soulful)

Prepare your tools:

Use a heavy pot or cast iron skillet

- something sturdy that distributes heat gently and evenly.

  • Warm the oil:

Place on medium-low heat until the oil is shimmering but not smoking.

  • Add the flour gently:

Sprinkle it in slowly, whisking with intention so it blends into a smooth paste.

  • Stir with patience:

This is where your connection to the kitchen grows. Stir continuously.

  • At first, it will be pale and fragrant

    • like toasted nuts.

    • After more time and gentle care, it will deepen in color and aroma - rich, warm, and - soulful.

Know when it's done:

  • Some dishes benefit from a light roux; others — like gumbo or dark gravies - benefit from a deeper, toasty color. Either way, let your senses guide you.
